Nothing good on? Try this instead!

    By Ben Hargreaves
    | May 31, 2015
    Movie Blogs

We’ve all been there. Nothing good on at the cinema. Sky Movies just doesn’t cut the mustard. Never-ending Google searches on ‘The Best Films You’ve Never Seen’ continually kicks out Shawshank, Oldboy, and David Cronenberg mind-benders. Well thanks to our friends at agoodmovietowatch.com you can now rid yourself of endless movie searching and find some movies you most probably haven’t seen, but really should if you know your onions.

    Unnamed

I forget the number of times I’ve followed the same procedure. Google ‘Movies You Haven’t Seen’. Check. Over to IMDB to check the rating. Bin most of them. Check. Find a good source to watch them on. Putlocker, YouTube, Pirate Bay. Disaster, crisis, virus explosion, pop-up blocker overload. Aaaah forget it. I’ll watch Shawshank again. But then, along with 2.4 million other users last month I found this wondrous website, and they were all too happy to allow us to get inside their inner workings, and pay us a few compliments back our own way – which was nice of them. Thanks guys!

    B4

We spoke to Founder & CEO Bilal Zouheir to see just what they’re up to and how they created this fantastic little search engine.

A Good Movie to Watch is trusted by around 1 million unique users every month – March was exceptionally nice, because about 2.4 million folks visited the site.

We can begin to see why.

The website is dedicated to finding you those movies you probably haven’t seen, but definitely should try and it’s all based on a very simple set of rules.

HIGHLY-RATED We pick movies that received high ratings both from viewers and critics. In other words, really good movies.
LITTLE-KNOWN We narrow them down to those that didn’t make a huge splash at the box office. This way not only are the movies great, but you haven’t seen them yet.
GET STARTED! Find the perfect movie for you by genre, mood or ‘with’. Keep in mind that we don’t add a movie unless it is good, you can’t go wrong.

…and it works. I’ve watched some fine movies of late that just weren’t anywhere near my radar; Dear Zachary (How did I not see this. Incredible!), Short Term 12 (Powerful and heart wrenching with brilliant performances), Brick (Joseph Gordon-Levitt goes all Donnie Darko on us). These came from the Top 20 list, but they have much more defined lists if you’re in the mood for something in particular.

Brick Emilie De Ravin Joseph Gordon Levitt

When you’re not sure what to watch, you are not looking for just any movie. What you need is a movie that you know will be good, even though you’ve never laid eyes on it. Well, we’ve made a database just for you. Welcome! A Good Movie to Watch is all about finding you great movies you’ve never heard of but will absolutely love, what we call “highly-rated, little-known”. Our main goal is to gather these movies in one place and showcase them to you without a lot of fuss. Prepare to give up wondering what to watch and start to discover amazing movies.

Fancy some Sci-Fi? There’s a list. A bit of horror perhaps? List. A good documentary. See the list. Not only are the genres covered but these guys have made it even easier with their mood lists; Raw movies, Smart movies, Challenging movies, and lots, lots more. Oh, and just in case you can’t think of anything to watch when the girlfriend is coming over, or it’s Grandma’s 85th…they’ve got you covered with their ‘With’ list, including movies to watch with your; Significant Other, Alone, Parents, male Friends, female friends, and on, and on, and on…

    Electrick Children Julia Garner

But Bilal doesn’t want it to end there. The site is trying to come up with ever more innovative ideas, and there is one he’s keen to let us know about. He may even have just given us an exclusive actually.

There is a new feature called The One. It’s a service where the user enters their email address and receives one good movie every Friday night – and that’s it, no news about us, no spam, no ads, etc. Just one (good) streamable movie every Friday night.

Mommy Anne Dorval Antoine Olivier Pilon

That sounds like a date, and I’m already registered. We love what Bilal and his team are doing over at agoodmovietowatch.com, and you should too. Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to ignore the big blockbusters, or indeed any of the movies we thoroughly recommend here at Cultofwhatever.com, but it’s always nice to have a Plan B, and this site is the best one out there right now.
