WWE Monday Night RAW May 23, 2011 Results

    WWE Raw

Just one night after an unforgettable WWE Over The Limit, the 939th edition of WWE Monday Night RAW came to you, live, from the Rose Garden in Portland, OR. One night after John Cena survived a heinous and punishing “I Quit” Match that saw him not only battle The Miz, but Miz’s associate, Alex Riley, as well to successfully force The Miz to say the words, “I Quit”, and retain the WWE Title, the fallout of the “I Quit” Match, as well as the rest of Over The Limit, would be felt on RAW!

    Match Results

    • WWE Tag Team Championship: David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty (with CM Punk & Mason Ryan) def. Kane & Big Show (c) by Michael McGillicutty pinning Big Show (c) following a double DDT to win the WWE Tag Team Titles.
    • Jack Swagger def. Evan Bourne by pin following the Swagger Bomb.
    • 8-Diva Tag: The Bella Twins, Melina, & Maryse and Kelly Kelly, Eve, Gail Kim, & Beth Phoenix fight to a No Contest after Kharma comes out.
    • Non-Title: Kofi Kingston def. Drew McIntyre by pin with the S.O.S.
    • Special Referee- Bret “The Hitman” Hart: John Cena & Rey Mysterio (with Bret “The Hitman” Hart) def. R-Truth & CM Punk by Rey Mysterio pinning CM Punk following the springboard leg drop while Bret Hart holds CM Punk in the Sharpshooter.

    Detailed Results

Just one night after finally getting his long-awaited revenge against Michael Cole by defeating the overconfident commentator in a “Kiss My Foot” Match before enlisting the help of “Good Ol’ J.R.” Jim Ross, Eve, and Bret “The Hitman” Hart to stick his foot in the mouth of Michael Cole, the show kicks off with Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler as Lawler proclaims that the “national nightmare” is over as he finally shut Michael Cole up! Jerry Lawler continues that he had a “Hart” up his sleeve at Over The Limit before Lawler brings out a very special guest in Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart! Bret states that, every time he faced Jerry Lawler, he had the utmost “respect” for Lawler before saying that, like so many others, he got “zero respect” from Michael Cole before saying that it was his “pleasure” to make Michael Cole “taste the agony of de-feet”! Bret is then interrupted by the arrival of R-Truth, who says that Bret has won some ninety championships before saying that he has received “zero” title matches! Truth continues that after “taking out” John Morrison and defeating Rey Mysterio, he realized that “actions do speak louder than words” before saying that, maybe if he “beats up a Hall of Famer”, he will get a title match!

This fires up Bret Hart as the Hall of Famer looks ready to fight as Bret shouts at R-Truth that he got title opportunities because he’s “the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be” and the reason that Truth doesn’t get title shots is because Truth is a “freaking lunatic”! This leads to R-Truth storming out of the ring as WWE Champion John Cena arrives on the scene, gingerly making his way to the ring, still feeling the effects of the “I Quit” Match at Over The Limit! Cena would call R-Truth back into the ring before welcoming Bret Hart back to a WWE ring before Cena would turn his attention to R-Truth as Cena tells Truth that they used to be “cool” and Truth responds by saying Cena does not know “cool” and he does not know him! Truth continues that the fans “made sure” that it was “all about” John Cena and Cena responds by saying that he “made sure” that it was “all about” the fans! Truth then tells Cena that he “never liked” him and that Cena and Bret Hart are “all the same” as they are “propaganda tools” to make the fans “feel good” before proclaiming that he does not “care” about the fans’ feelings because it is “all about” him and he isn’t going to “feel right” until he gets a WWE Title match! John Cena then states that he is “broken up” from Over The Limit, but it’s about time that someone “knocked some sense” into R-Truth! The anonymous General Manager of RAW then interrupts with an email that announces that he has not quite seen enough from R-Truth to grant him a WWE Title match before stating that he will be watching the main event “closely” before announcing that the main event would see R-Truth teaming with New Nexus leader CM Punk to face Rey Mysterio and WWE Champion John Cena and, in addition to that, the Special Referee for the match will be none other than Bret “The Hitman” Hart! What will happen in the main event when WWE Champion John Cena teams with Rey Mysterio to face CM Punk and the unbalanced R-Truth with Bret Hart as the Special Referee?

Backstage, WWE Tag Team Champions Kane & Big Show are discussing their match at Over The Limit as Big Show sits on the Ferrari of Alberto Del Rio, which would lead to Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, shouting at Big Show in Spanish, which Big Show would respond to by shoving Rodriguez before Alberto Del Rio would confront the WWE Tag Team Champions and lecture Kane & Big Show in Spanish as Kane & Big Show just walk away from “The Mexican Aristocrat”!

One night after successfully retaining the WWE Tag Team Titles against New Nexus leader CM Punk and New Nexus powerhouse Mason Ryan, Kane & Big Show would defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against the other half of The New Nexus who defeated them on last week’s RAW in David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty, with CM Punk a guest on commentary and Mason Ryan standing nearby! During the match, Mason Ryan would try and get involved in the match, but the referee would hold Ryan back, but Kane would take matters into his own hands by taking himself over the top rope to take Ryan out of the match! Unfortunately, the referee was inadvertently knocked down during the confrontation, which would allow CM Punk to deliver a kick to Big Show, allowing David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty to hit a double DDT on Big Show en route to McGillicutty pinning Big Show to win the WWE Tag Team Titles! How will Kane & Big Show respond to The New Nexus robbing them of the WWE Tag Team Titles?

Moments after being robbed of the WWE Tag Team Titles by The New Nexus, Kane & Big Show are being interviewed backstage as a furious Big Show shouts at interviewer Scott Stanford after being asked about being “frustrated” over the title loss before Alberto Del Rio interrupts and slaps Big Show across the face! Alberto Del Rio then runs as Big Show gives chase and, when the cameras catch up to Big Show, Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, has Del Rio’s Ferrari parked on the leg of Big Show! Kane screams at Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez as Del Rio yells at Rodriguez to back the car off of Big Show, which Rodriguez finally does as Kane shouts for medical assistance as Big Show writhes in pain on the ground, grasping his injured! Big Show would then try and stand up, but the injured leg could not hold up and Big Show would collapse again as EMT’s attend to the downed giant, removing the knee pad of Big Show before Big Show again tries to stand on the injured, finally getting to his feet, but still unable to put the full weight on his leg as Big Show continues to refuse medical help! What is the status of Big Show after being run over by the Ferrari of Alberto Del Rio?

After leaving the side of Michael Cole on last week’s RAW, “The All-American American” Jack Swagger would look to regain his focus as Swagger would go one-on-one with Evan Bourne on RAW! In the end, it was Jack Swagger planting Evan Bourne with the Swagger Bomb en route to picking up an impressive win! After the match, Jack Swagger would parade around the ring following his win, but would get knocked down with a kick by Evan Bourne, which would enrage Swagger!

Backstage, a humiliated and dejected Michael Cole would walk past the WWE Divas before extending his hand to Eve, but Eve would respond by sticking her foot out to Cole, mocking what happened to Cole at Over The Limit!

One night after being humiliated by Jerry “The King” Lawler, Jim Ross, Eve, & Bret “The Hitman” Hart as, while being locked in the Sharpshooter of Bret Hart, he would be forced to kiss the foot of Jerry Lawler, the self-proclaimed “Voice of the WWE” Michael Cole would appear on RAW as a defeated Cole would “apologize” to Jerry Lawler, Josh Mathews, and the WWE fans for his “reprehensible behavior”! Cole continues that he wants to “come back home” and sit next to Jerry Lawler and call the action in the ring like he was hired to do before promising that there will be no more “Cole Mine” or anything before asking the fans to accept his apology! Jerry Lawler would then thank Michael Cole for apologizing before also thanking Cole for giving him a picture that will be on his “Christmas card” before showing the picture of Cole kissing his foot! Jerry Lawler would then say that Michael Cole will need a “lifetime supply” of breath mints as Michael Cole would say that he “deserves” to be ridiculed before taking his seat at the announcer’s desk!

One night after he and Alex Riley mercilessly assaulted WWE Champion John Cena only for Cena to make a comeback and force him to say “I Quit” in their “I Quit” Match for the WWE Title, The Miz and Alex Riley would appear on RAW and states that he lost at Over The Limit for “one reason” and that is Alex Riley! Miz continues that it is “habitual” that Riley messes things up for him and costs him the WWE Title on a regular basis before The Miz asks the anonymous General Manager of RAW to give him another shot at the WWE Title with Alex Riley “banned” from ringside! The GM would not make a sound, prompting The Miz to shout that he should be the WWE Champion before the anonymous GM finally chimes in with an email that announces that Miz’s request for a WWE Title match is “denied” before making the stern ruling that, since Miz lost to John Cena, then Miz is “done” with John Cena and challenging for the WWE Title!

A frustrated Miz would then turn his attention back to Alex Riley as The Miz would shout that, if it was not for Riley, he would be the WWE Champion before calling Riley a “worthless waste of space”! Alex Riley then responds by saying that he was not the one who said “I Quit”, which enrages The Miz further as Miz shoves Riley back! Miz then continues to demoralize Alex Riley by shouting that Riley is “nothing” without him and Riley rode his “coat tails” all the way to the main event of WrestleMania and that Riley has been “disappointment after disappointment” before shouting that he is sick of his “mind-numbing stupidity” and that he is “sick” of Riley’s “face” before shouting that Riley is “fired”! The Miz would then shove Alex Riley again, which would cause Riley to erupt with anger as Riley would deliver a right hand to The Miz before pummeling Miz in and out of the ring, ripping the shirt of Miz to shreds before hurling Miz over the announce table and rolling Miz back into the ring and beating Miz down in the corner before throwing Miz into the center of the ring and delivering a vicious kick to the skull of his former mentor! What is next for Alex Riley after assaulting his former boss, The Miz? How will The Miz respond to the attack by Alex Riley?

One night after Brie Bella used Twin Magic with her sister, Nikki, to retain the Divas Title against Kelly Kelly, Divas Champion Brie Bella would team with her sister Nikki Bella, Melina, & Maryse to face Kelly Kelly, Eve, Gail Kim, & Beth Phoenix in an 8-Diva Tag Match! However, the match would barely get underway before the haunting music of Kharma would sound as “The Diva of Destruction” would make her way to the ring as Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, Eve, Maryse, Melina, Gail Kim, & The Bella Twins would all stand together on a united front! Then, as Kharma enters the ring, all eight Divas would surround Kharma, ready to fight, but Kharma would drop to her knees, appearing to break down and cry in the middle of the ring and in front of the Divas as “The Diva of Destruction” would sob and mutter to herself with an apparent look of fear on her face! What has caused this sudden breakdown by Kharma?

The United States Champion would then be in action on RAW as Kofi Kingston would go one-on-one with “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre in a non-title match! In the end, it was Kofi Kingston overcoming an injured knee to hit the S.O.S. on Drew McIntyre en route to picking up the win!

After his Ferrari was used to run over the leg of Big Show earlier in the night, Alberto Del Rio would make an appearance backstage as a shaken Del Rio would state that Big Show “had it coming” before saying that it not his “fault”, putting the blame on Ricardo Rodriguez, calling his personal ring announcer an “idiot”! Judging by Alberto Del Rio’s reaction, it would seem that Big Show’s injury was an accident, but was this the case?

Then it was time for the main event as, one night after surviving a punishing and brutal “I Quit” Match against The Miz to successfully retain the WWE Title, “The Champ” John Cena would team with “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio to face the team of R-Truth and the leader of The New Nexus, CM Punk, with Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart serving as the Special Referee! At the end of a chaotic match, it was Rey Mysterio hitting the 619 on CM Punk, but before going for the finishing blow, Bret Hart would lock in the Sharpshooter on CM Punk while Rey hit a springboard leg drop en route to picking up the win for his team!
