WWE SmackDown Results: January 3, 2014

    WWE SmackDown

    Wwe The Shield Talking

    Dissension Apparent.

The 750th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown was the first SmackDown of 2014 and it came to you from the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. After a tumultuous 2013 that saw them fired and re-hired before winning the WWE Tag Team Titles, Goldust & Cody Rhodes would be looking to ring in 2014 with a successful title defense as “The Brotherhood” would defend the WWE Tag Team Championship against The Wyatt Family’s Luke Harper & Erick Rowan!

    Match Results

    • The Usos def. Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns by DQ after Dean Ambrose interferes.
    • R-Truth (with Xavier Woods & The Funkadactyls) def. Fandango by pin following the What’s Up.
    • WWE Tag Team Championship: Goldust & Cody Rhodes (c) def. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan by Goldust (c) rolling up Erick Rowan to retain.
    • Nikki Bella def. Aksana by pin following The Rack.
    • Non-Title: Big E. Langston def. Curtis Axel by pin following the Big Ending.
    • 6-Man Tag: CM Punk & The Usos def. The Shield by CM Punk pinning Dean Ambrose following the GTS.

    Detailed Results

After CM Punk’s mind games with The Shield planted the seed of dissention in the trio, leading to Punk defeating Seth Rollins on RAW, SmackDown kicks off with the three members of The Shield, United States Champion Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns. Dean Ambrose says that they have heard the “rumblings” regarding The Shield and that “some egos” have gotten out of control. Ambrose continues, saying that what CM Punk fails to understand is that The Shield cannot be “divided”. Ambrose then hands the microphone to Roman Reigns, who says that there is no “weak link” in The Shield, briefly looking at Dean Ambrose before handing the microphone to Seth Rollins. Rollins says that the setbacks that they have had lately are “temporary”, but they will come together and “dominate”.

With United States Champion Dean Ambrose a guest on commentary, the opening match of the night would see The Shield’s Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns squaring off with The Usos. During the match, Dean Ambrose would pull one of The Usos out of the ring, resulting in a disqualification win for The Usos. After the match, The Shield would look to beat down The Usos, but CM Punk would rush out to make the save, assisting The Usos in battling back against The Shield, forcing the trio to retreat through the crowd. This leads to SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero making a 6-Man Tag match for the main event of the evening.

After failing to take the Intercontinental Championship from Big E. Langston on RAW, Fandango was in action on SmackDown as Fandango, with Summer Rae in his corner, would go one-on-one with R-Truth, with Xavier Woods a guest on commentary. During the match, Xavier Woods would call for The Funkadactyls, who would come out dancing, distracting Fandango long enough for R-Truth to hit the What’s Up on Fandango, picking up the win.

After the shocking events of RAW that saw Daniel Bryan finally succumb to Bray Wyatt, becoming a member of the mysterious Wyatt Family, The Wyatt Family’s Luke Harper & Erick Rowan, with Bray Wyatt auspiciously missing from ringside, would challenge Goldust & Cody Rhodes for the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown. In the end, it was Goldust surprising Erick Rowan with a roll-up, quickly scoring the three-count to successfully retain the WWE Tag Team Titles for himself and Cody Rhodes.

The Divas were in action on SmackDown as Aksana would go one-on-one with Nikki Bella. In the end, it was Nikki Bella hitting The Rack on Aksana, scoring the three-count for the win.

Following a successful title defense on RAW, the Intercontinental Champion was in action on SmackDown as Big E. Langston faced Curtis Axel in a non-title match. In the end, it was a dominant performance from the Intercontinental Champion as Big E. Langston puts Curtis Axel down with the Big Ending en route to picking up the win.

Then it was time for the main event as, following a brawl earlier in the night, “The Best in the World” CM Punk would team with The Usos to face The Shield, United States Champion Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns, in a 6-Man Tag Match. After The Usos take Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns out on the outside, it was CM Punk hitting the GTS on Dean Ambrose, pinning the United States Champion to pick up the win for himself and The Usos.
