WWE SmackDown Results: January 18, 2013

    By Cassidy
    | January 19, 2013
    WWE SmackDown

    Wwe Alberto Del Rio 03061

    Fiesta Del Rio.

The landmark 700th episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX. One week after felling the giant Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match in a David and Goliath victory to secure the World Heavyweight Championship, the brand new World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio, would celebrate his triumphant victory with his own Championship Fiesta to kick off the show just nine nights before he makes his first title defense of the World Heavyweight Title against former champion Big Show at the Royal Rumble!

    Match Results

    • Non-Title: Antonio Cesaro def. Kofi Kingston by pin following the Neutralizer.
    • The Great Khali def. Tensai by pin following the Khali Chop.
    • 6-Man Tag: Randy Orton & Team Hell No def. Wade Barrett & Team Rhodes Scholars by Randy Orton pinning Damien Sandow following the RKO.
    • The Miz def. Primo (with Epico) by submission to the Figure-Four Leg Lock.
    • Non-Title: Kaitlyn def. Aksana by pin following the Spear.
    • Alberto Del Rio & Sheamus def. Big Show & Dolph Ziggler (with AJ Lee & Big E. Langston) by count-out.

    Detailed Results

With a mariachi band playing, Ricardo Rodriguez welcomes everyone to “Fiesta Del Rio” before introducing the guest of honor, the brand new World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio! Del Rio says that they all must celebrate the fact that the “fat jackass”, Big Show, is no longer the World Heavyweight Champion. However, Del Rio’s celebration is abruptly cut short with the arrival of “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee, & Big E. Langston. Dolph tells the new champion that, what Del Rio has, is a major target on his head and, when he sees fit, he will cash in Money-in-the-Bank and take the title away from Del Rio! Dolph then suggests that Big E. Langston take Del Rio out and he cash in Money-in-the-Bank right now! Before the fight could get underway, the irate former champion, Big Show, makes his way to the ring and Dolph tells Del Rio that he is “outnumbered”. This brings out Sheamus, who says he thought he would come out there and help out with the numbers situation, saying that he cannot resist a “Fiesta Del Rio”, especially with so many of his “friends” out there. Sheamus then tells Del Rio that Del Rio deserves to be the World Heavyweight Champion, offering his hand to the new champion with Del Rio accepting the handshake of his former rival! Sheamus then offers to be a “bouncer” for the fiesta before Del Rio and Sheamus look ready to do battle. However, SmackDown General Manager Booker T quickly diffuses the situation as the GM gets in the middle of the ring, warning Big Show that, if he ever puts his hands on Booker again, he will ruin his night. Booker then announces that the main event of SmackDown will see World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio teaming with Sheamus to face the team of Big Show & Dolph Ziggler. The GM then orders Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee, and Big E. Langston to leave the ring because they are not invited to the party and they all reluctantly take their leave. Del Rio then has Booker T do his signature Spin-a-rooni before asking Sheamus to dance and, at the pressuring of Del Rio and the San Antonio crowd, “The Celtic Warrior” does his best Mexican dance!

The United States Champion was in action on SmackDown as Antonio Cesaro went one-on-one with Kofi Kingston in a non-title match. In the end, it was Antonio Cesaro dropping Kofi Kingston with the Neutralizer en route to picking up the win.

Two super heavyweights squared off on SmackDown as The Great Khali, with Natalya in his corner, went one-on-one with Tensai. In the end, it was The Great Khali dropping Tensai with the Khali Chop en route to picking up the win.

Champions would collide on SmackDown as “The Viper” Randy Orton would team with the WWE Tag Team Champions, Team Hell No, to face Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett & Team Rhodes Scholars in a 6-Man Tag Match. In the end, it was Randy Orton planting Damien Sandow with the RKO en route to picking up the win for himself and Team Hell No. After the match, Kane & Daniel Bryan would ask for a group hug from “The Viper”, but while Orton was reluctant to hug it out, Team Hell No would force the hug on a visibly uncomfortable Orton!

After a backstage confrontation with Primo, Epico, and Rosa Mendes, “The Awesome One” The Miz would go one-on-one with Primo, with Epico & Rosa Mendes in his corner. In the end, The Miz would borrow from his new, Hall of Fame friend Ric Flair as Miz locks in the Figure Four Leg Lock on Primo, forcing Primo to tap out to pick up the win.

Four nights after finally securing the Divas Championship and making former champion Eve quit on RAW, new Divas Champion Kaitlyn would go one-on-one with Aksana in a non-title match on SmackDown. In the end, it was Kaitlyn with the Spear en route to picking up the win.

In a message delivered from an undisclosed location, The Shield appears on SmackDown as Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns explain that they interrupted Mick Foley’s Hall of Fame speech on RAW because they hold Foley accountable for all of the young wrestlers who “sacrificed their bodies in the name of being hardcore”. The Shield then states that, when it comes to Ryback, what’s done is done and Ryback will never get back what they took from him. The Shield also mentions Randy Orton, saying that they are “just getting started” with Orton and telling Sheamus that, while Sheamus fights for fun, they fight for “justice”. The trio then vows that all of these men will “believe in The Shield”.

Then it was time for the main event as new World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio, with Ricardo Rodriguez in his corner, would team with “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus to face the team of the former champion, Big Show, and “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Dolph Ziggler, with AJ Lee and Big E. Langston in his corner. During the match, Big E. Langston would try to attack Sheamus on the outside, but Sheamus would dodge the attack. However, the referee would see what took place and would eject Big E. Langston from ringside! This would send AJ Lee into a rage and, after confronting the referee in the ring, the referee would eject the irate AJ from ringside, as well! During the match, Alberto Del Rio would knock Big Show to the outside and then, to embarrass the giant, Del Rio tosses a bucket of water all over the former champion! This enrages Big Show who storms away from ringside, resulting in a count-out loss for himself and Dolph Ziggler. Del Rio and Sheamus then celebrate their victory in the ring as balloons rain down on the fans in the continuation of “Fiesta Del Rio”!
