WWE Friday Night SmackDown December 31, 2010 Detailed Results

    By Cassidy
    | December 31, 2010
    WWE SmackDown

On the last day of 2010, the 593rd edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown would be a special New Year’s Eve edition which came to you from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY. The main event of the final SmackDown of 2010 would see four Superstars who had unforgettable years in 2010 would face off as World Heavyweight Champion Edge would team with “The Master of the 619” Rey Mysterio to face their longtime rivals “The Big Red Monster” Kane and “The Essence of Excellence” Alberto Del Rio!

    Match Results

    • Big Show def. “Dashing” Cody Rhodes by intentional Count-Out.
    • Drew McIntyre def. Trent Barreta by referee stoppage.
    • Edge & Rey Mysterio def. Kane & Alberto Del Rio by Edge pinning Alberto Del Rio following the Spear.
    • Natalya & Beth Phoenix def. Layla & Michelle McCool by Beth Phoenix pinning Michelle McCool with the Glam Slam.
    • Intercontinental Championship: Triple Threat: Dolph Ziggler (c) (with Vickie Guerrero) def. Jack Swagger & Kofi Kingston by rolling up Kofi Kingston with the tights.

    Match Results

The special New Year’s Eve edition of SmackDown kicks off with the Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler and Dolph’s girlfriend, SmackDown Consultant Vickie Guerrero, who appears to be sick, but despite that, Vickie Guerrero states that she is there to “file a complaint” against John Cena for Cena attempting to give her the Attitude Adjustment last week! Vickie then states that she does not have an “attitude” and that it certainly does not need an “adjustment” before stating that he now suffers from a “severe case of vertigo” and she can not be up more than “two feet” off of the ground! Vickie then adds that she is also “nauseous” and that, when she stands up, the room “spins” before stating that she expects all of the fans to stand up and show her some “human compassion”! Vickie is then interrupted by the arrival of Kofi Kingston as Kofi tells Vickie to show some “compassion” by being quiet before saying that the fans are getting “nauseous” from listening to her before saying that Vickie did not seem to have “vertigo” at WWE TLC when she climbed the ladder to try and retrieve the Intercontinental Title for Dolph Ziggler! “The All-American American” Jack Swagger then comes out and states that, for the “first time in his life”, Kofi was “right” before stating that, what happened in the Triple Threat Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title at WWE TLC was an “All-American travesty” before showing the footage that shows Kofi and Swagger battling over the Intercontinental Title atop a ladder with both of them trying to get the Intercontinental Title belt only for the belt to land on the mat, followed by Dolph snatching the title up to technically win the match, but in highly controversial fashion! Swagger then states that everyone know he should have won that match before Dolph Ziggler interrupts and states that Kofi and Swagger are just “jealous” because he is the Intercontinental Champion and they are not and that he could have beaten both of them “in succession” or “one-by-one”, but the only thing that matters is that he is the champion! Kofi then states that Dolph does not “deserve” to be champion, but he does “deserve” to get a rematch before Swagger jumps in and says he is the one who “deserves” a title shot! Dolph then gives the excuse that he would give them a title shot, but he and Vickie are slated to be the “guests of honor” at Theodore Long’s New Year’s Eve party before Dolph tries to cheap shot Kofi, but Kofi would knock Dolph down before Swagger would blast Kofi from behind, but Kofi would send Swagger packing out of the ring, as well as Dolph! SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long then comes out and states that they are all invited to his New Year’s Eve party before making the blockbuster announcement that Dolph Ziggler will defend the Intercontinental Title in a Triple Threat Match against both Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger on SmackDown! Can Dolph Ziggler survive the Triple Threat Match to retain the Intercontinental Title or will Jack Swagger or Kofi Kingston win the gold?

One week after ruining “The World’s Largest Santa” Big Show’s Christmas reading, “Dashing” Cody Rhodes would go one-on-one with “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show! In the end, Big Show would wind up the Knockout Punch, but “Dashing” Cody Rhodes would duck out and leave the ring, walking out on the match, earning the count-out win for Big Show! How will Big Show respond to “Dashing” Cody Rhodes hasty exit?

Backstage, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long welcomes everyone to his New Year’s celebration and asks the SmackDown Superstars to give their New Year’s Resolutions! Drew McIntyre would step up to the microphone first as McIntyre proclaims that, in 2011, he will be a “champion” before glancing over at Kelly Kelly and stating that he will also become a “better person”! An apparently intoxicated Chavo Guerrero then gets on the mic and states that it might be the champagne talking, but the SmackDown Superstars & Divas are nothing but “ignorant, self-centered jerks” and Theodore Long would step in and inform Chavo that he is drinking “non-alcoholic champagne” before Chavo turns to see the angry glares of the SmackDown locker room!

After proclaiming that his New Year’s Resolution was to be a “champion” and a “better person” in 2011, “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre would go one-on-one with “The Dude Buster” Trent Barreta! During the match, Drew McIntyre would get knocked to the outside and Trent Barreta would go for a dive to the outside on McIntyre, but McIntyre would move out the way and Barreta would find nothing but the arena floor upon landing, leaving the referee no choice but to deem that Barreta was unable to continue the match, giving McIntyre the victory! After witnessing the crash and burn of Trent Barreta, Drew McIntyre would respond by taking the already injured Barreta and delivering the Future Shock DDT to Barreta on the arena floor! What is the status of Trent Barreta following his dive to the arena floor, as well as the Future Shock DDT by Drew McIntyre?

Then it was time for tag team action as the new World Heavyweight Champion, Edge, would team with longtime friend, “The Master of the 619” Rey Mysterio to face the team of “The Big Red Monster” Kane and “The Essence of Excellence” Alberto Del Rio! At the end of a chaotic match, it was Rey Mysterio hitting the 619 on Alberto Del Rio and Edge following it up with the Spear en route to Edge pinning Del Rio to pick up the win for himself and Mysterio!

Backstage, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long interrupts an argument between Big Show and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes to make two blockbuster announcements regarding the first SmackDown of 2011 next week as Rey Mysterio will go one-on-one with Alberto Del Rio in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match and Kane will get his rematch for the World Heavyweight Title when he challenges new champion Edge for the gold in a Last Man Standing Match! Can Kane regain the World Heavyweight Title next week or will Edge kick off 2011 with a successful title defense?

The Divas would be in action on SmackDown as Divas Champion Natalya & “The Glamazon” Beth Phoenix would take on Layla & Michelle McCool! In the end, it was Beth Phoenix hitting the Glam Slam on Michelle McCool en rout to picking up the win! What awaits all four of these Divas in 2011?

Backstage, Theodore Long congratulates the Superstars on getting through a New Year’s party without it ending in a fight, but Chavo Guerrero would step up the microphone again and call the party “lame”, prompting Big Show to dump an entire punch bowl on Chavo’s head, which would prompt a fight with Chavo, Hornswoggle, Tyler Reks, and several others as all the Superstars got into a food fight to end the party!

Then it was time for the last main event of 2010 as Dolph Ziggler would defend the Intercontinental Title against Kofi Kingston and “The All-American American” Jack Swagger in a Triple Threat Match! At the end of an incredible and hard-fought match, it was Kofi Kingston hitting the Trouble In Paradise on Jack Swagger, but before Kofi could make his way to pin Swagger, Dolph Ziggler would come out of nowhere and would roll up Kofi and would hook the tights to, once again, narrowly retain the Intercontinental Title by questionable means! What challenges await the Intercontinental Champion in 2011? What will these three Superstars endure in the new year?
