WWE.com is reporting that ten-time WWE Champion John Cena underwent surgery today to remove bone chips from Cena’s right elbow. Renowned physician and surgeon Dr. James Andrews removed several pieces of bone cartilage from Cena’s arm, using a scope. Dr. Andrews commented on the surgery, “He had begun to lose motion in his arm and it had been locking up. I performed an orthoscopic procedure on his elbow and took out a bunch of spurs. Everything went very well.”
Dr. Andrews also mentioned that Cena’s rehabilitation will begin on Monday as the former World Champion will work on regaining range of motion in the arm and reducing the swelling. Overall, Cena’s recovery will likely take six weeks and, after that, Cena will be allowed to return to action. Cena will be reevaluated on Thursday where a more definite timetable for his in-ring return will be determined.
Dr. James Andrews is the go-to physician for countless Superstars over the years, including Triple H, Edge, Randy Orton, and Shawn Michaels. Not to mention some of the most famous athletes on the planet, including Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Bo Jackson, Roger Clemens, and Charles Barkley.
