Looking Forward to Hell.

Nine nights before WWE Hell in a Cell, the 791st edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the BJCC in Birmingham, AL. On RAW, a No Holds Barred Contract-on-a-Pole Match between John Cena and Dean Ambrose produced not one, but two Hell in a Cell Matches as, per the terms of the match, John Cena will renew his longtime rivalry with Randy Orton when he faces “The Viper” inside Hell in a Cell and, as the winner of the No Holds Barred Contract-on-a-Pole Match, Dean Ambrose will get Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell. Now that he knows that he will be locked inside WWE’s most demonic structure with “The Lunatic Fringe” a week from Sunday, “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Seth Rollins would kick off SmackDown to address his upcoming trip to hell.

After using a distraction from his stunt double, Damien Mizdow, to score a non-title win over United States Champion Sheamus on RAW, The Miz has earned himself a United States Title match at WWE Hell in a Cell, but on SmackDown, the self-proclaimed “A-Lister” would team with WWE Tag Team Champions Gold & Stardust to face the team of United States Champion Sheamus and The Usos in a 6-Man Tag Match.

This past Monday night on RAW, AJ Lee reluctantly teamed with Layla in a match against Paige & Alicia Fox, but when the Divas Champion tried to tag Layla into the match, Layla refused the tag and left AJ Lee to fend for herself. However, what Layla did not anticipate is that AJ Lee would be able to handle things on her own as the Divas Champion not only defied the two-on-one odds to win the match, but she gave Layla a vicious beatdown after the match and, on SmackDown, Divas Champion AJ Lee would go one-on-one with Layla in a non-title match.

Match Results

  • Non-Title: Seth Rollins def. Dolph Ziggler by pin following the Curb Stomp.
  • Non-Title: AJ Lee def. Layla by submission to the Black Widow.
  • 6-Man Tag: Sheamus & The Usos def. The Miz and Gold & Stardust (with Damien Mizdow) by Sheamus pinning Goldust following the Brogue Kick.
  • Nikki Bella def. Naomi by pin following the Rack Attack.
  • Dean Ambrose def. Kane (with Seth Rollins) by DQ after Seth Rollins interferes.
