Live Wire Match Of The Week: Evolution vs. The Rock n Sock Connection

    By Tony Cottam
    | October 6, 2013
    The Live Wire

00:00 Foley cuts a Foley-esque promo, before “Foley-esque” became a term for rambling and not really having a point for 90% of it all.

00:40 Rock jumps in. Rock goes OTT, as usual. Remember when The Rock was actually interesting and entertaining rather than whiny and self promoting?

02:27 I SEE THE LINE IN THE SAND-UH! Best theme music Randy Orton has ever had.

03:10 Interestingly, Ric Flair lost over $100,000 dollars in the time it took his name to be announced.

04:00 Hey, the Intercontinental Championship. Didn’t that used to mean something?

04:30 Foley enters, and all credit to him – he looks in great shape here. Maybe hasn’t ever looked better in his WWE run.

04:55 Flair taking a swipe through the ropes at Foley as he walks round the ring is awesome.

05:20 The pop for the Rock isn’t as big as I thought it would be, or as I remember it.

    05:30 We’re on! It’s a slug fest!

06:13 Rock against Flair. The two best talkers ever?

06:41 Rock’s strut is more Jarrett than Flair

07:25 Backdrop on the outside! Flying Foley Elbow!

08:00 Foley in vs a REALLY young looking Orton. His selling with the bizarre flailing arm is REALLY distracting too.

08:45 Foley is moving really smoothly, it’s weird to see these days

09:10 Rock with the lesser seen upside down nad punch

09:45 Flair slaps rock on the back of the head. Flair: “WOO!” Rock slaps him off the apron.

    10:20 Here’s DAVE~~~!!!

11:00 Flair chops like a demon. With added “woo” and strutting. Needless to say, it backfires on him

11:45 Ric goes up top. He gets thrown off. As usual.

12:20 Lawler with the second “Walking Tall” reference.

12:40 Foley in and is all business agan. Those quick punches he hits in the corner always looked damn good when he was on his game. And an added “BANG! BANG!” for good measure

13:45 Foley lines up for the bump over the ring steps he takes better than anyone ever has. Brutal.

14:20 Mick kicks out of an Orton pin.

15:00 Flair is working over Foley as only Flair can, with struts and chops. Flair locks Foley’s ankle in his feet to block the tag – smart

15:40 The first obvious rest spot as Orton puts on THE CHINLOCK OF DOOM

16:45 DAVE~~~! is in the full mout position, ground and pound on Foley. First signs of his MMA flirtation?

17:30 Foley is your “man-in-flannel” playing the role of Ricky Morton. Rock is on the apron, looking concerned.

18:25 Foley fights over to The Rock and gets the tag. Rock clears house 3-on-1 until DAVE~~~! spinebusters him to hell bah gawd!

19:00 Flair pleased with DAVE~~~! to let him hit The People’s Elbow. He over eggs the strutting, and gets caught as the Rock kips up, who then hits his own strutting people’s elbow. Brilliant.

20:10 Flair kicks out of the People’s Elbow! Woo!

20:35 Rock blocks RKO, hits the Rock Bottom. Flair breaks it up.

21:00 Flair is running about at ringside like a demented debt collector, DAVE~~~! hits a Batista Bomb behind the ref’s back. Rock kicks out.

21:45 JR slips in a “Walking Tall” reference as Rock tags Foley in for the hot tag. Foley clears house 3 on 1. Double arm DDT on Orton, and it’s SOCKO TIME!

    22:30 RKO! Three Count!

22:49 Foley barely sells the RKO after the fall as Orton, Flair and DAVE~~~! celebrate outside the ring

23:40 Foley looks bemused in the ring. Rock stares him out from across the ring. Foley gets the sympathy ovation. The Rock looks bemused.

24:45 The Rock starts applauding Foley, we get the handshake and hug, and that’s all she wrote.
