In an unexpected announcement during Sunday’s Payback pay-per-view, a vignette revealed that, on July 14 in Philadelphia at the Money-in-the-Bank event, “The Whole Damn Show” Rob Van Dam will make his return to the WWE. The former WWE Champion will be appearing in a WWE ring for the first time since January of 2009 when he was a surprise entrant in that year’s Royal Rumble. RVD was spotted at the 2013 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony as the ECW Original was there to support his friend Booker T, who was inducted this year.

For the last four years, RVD has been working for TNA, where he racked up a reign as their World Heavyweight Champion, as well as a run with the X-Division Title. Rob’s last appearance with TNA was on February 28, where he lost the X-Division Title to Kenny King.

In his WWE career, Rob Van Dam is a one-time WWE Champion, one-time ECW Champion, 2006 “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank”, six-time Intercontinental Champion (tied with Jeff Jarrett for the second most reigns as Intercontinental Champion in WWE history), one-time and last European Champion, four-time and last Hardcore Champion, two-time World Tag Team Champion (1x w/ Booker T & 1x w/ Kane), one-time WWE Tag Team Champion (w/ Rey Mysterio), and is also the sixteenth WWE Triple Crown Champion and the seventh WWE Grand Slam Champion. In the original ECW, RVD was a one-time ECW World Television Champion and a two-time ECW World Tag Team Champion (w/ Sabu), as well as ECW’s fifth Triple Crown Champion.

What rivalry do you want to see RVD be a part of when he returns? Post your comments in the box below.
