    WWE SmackDown

    Wwe John Cena 03061

    The GM gets KO’d.

On the last stop before No Way Out, the 669th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH. Two nights before he goes to war with Big Show in a Steel Cage Match at No Way Out with the stipulation that, if Big Show loses, then John Laurinaitis will be fired, twelve-time World Champion John Cena makes a rare appearance SmackDown. Before their respective No Way Out title matches, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus teams with WWE Champion CM Punk to face the new #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Dolph Ziggler, and one of the two challengers for the WWE Title, Daniel Bryan.

    Match Results

    • Dolph Ziggler & Daniel Bryan (with Vickie Guerrero) def. Sheamus & CM Punk (with A.J.) by Dolph Ziggler rolling up Dolph Ziggler.
    • Brodus Clay def. Heath Slater by pin following the Funkasplash.
    • Beth Phoenix def. Alicia Fox by pin following the Glam Slam.
    • Non-Title: Christian def. Jack Swagger (with Vickie Guerrero) by pin following the frog splash.
    • 2-on-1 Tornado Handicap Match: Ryback def. Ari Cohen & Mike Testa by pinning Mike Testa following the Double Machine Buster.
    • Damien Sandow def. Tyson Kidd by pin following the straight jacket neckbreaker.

    Detailed Results

Four nights after she shocked the world by kissing Kane on RAW, the unhinged Diva, A.J., kicks off the show. Before A.J. can explain her actions, however, Vickie Guerrero interrupts as Vickie claims that no one is talking about A.J.’s kiss for Kane or Mr. McMahon getting knocked out by Big Show. Vickie says that everyone is talking about the new #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Dolph Ziggler. Dolph and Vickie make their way to the ring as Dolph says that he “stole the show” on RAW, adding that he is going to be the World Heavyweight Champion and he is not going to let A.J. “steal” his spotlight. A.J. admits that she stopped listening to Dolph about halfway through his spiel. A.J. then tells Dolph that he is “delusional” to think that he will be the next World Heavyweight Champion before calling Vickie “grandma”! This results in Vickie slapping A.J. across the face, calling A.J. “little girl” and telling her to get out of Dolph’s ring, but A.J. just smiles at the manager.

The unbalanced Diva then lights up when WWE Champion CM Punk makes his way to the ring. Punk says that, just because Vickie says “excuse me”, does not mean they have to listen, adding that there is “no excuse” for having to listen to Vickie. The WWE Champion continues that Vickie is like a “broken record”, always touting Dolph Ziggler, but Dolph doesn’t seal the deal. Punk then says that it is the “same song and dance” and it will be the same at No Way Out, as well in the main event, calling Vickie “the voice of the pointless”. One of the two contenders, along with Kane, in the Triple Threat Match for the WWE Title at No Way Out then interrupts as Daniel Bryan comes out, calling Punk the “knight in shining armor”. Bryan then says that A.J. has Punk wrapped around her finger and Punk does not even realize it, adding that both Punk and Kane are making the same “mistake” that he did. Bryan continues that, at WrestleMania, A.J. cost him the World Heavyweight Title and, at No Way Out, A.J. will do the same to CM Punk. World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus then joins the festivities, saying that he has proven Bryan’s WrestleMania theory wrong on more than one occasion. Sheamus admits that Dolph had an impressive night on RAW, but that was one night and Alberto Del Rio’s injury has provided him another opportunity to beat Ziggler. With the support of CM Punk, Sheamus proposes that they have their main event match right now! A.J. responds by saying that, if they are going to have the match now, then she has some unfinished business before A.J. tries to attack Vickie, but is restrained by Punk.

At the behest of Sheamus, the opening match of the night saw World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus team with WWE Champion CM Punk, with A.J. in their corner, to face their respective No Way Out opponents, “The Show-Off” Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan, with Vickie Guerrero in their corner. During the match, Vickie Guerrero gets on the apron of the ring, but A.J. shoves Vickie into the ring. However, this backfires as Vickie’s presence distracts Sheamus, allowing Dolph Ziggler to roll the World Heavyweight Champion up for the win. After the match, Sheamus chases Dolph through the crowd, leaving the door open for a brawl between Vickie and A.J.! Vickie tries to escape, but A.J. catches up to Vickie before Guerrero kicks A.J. away, sending her head and neck first into the ring apron. “The Big Red Monster” Kane then makes his way to ringside as Kane lifts A.J. up and carries her up the ramp. However, CM Punk attacks Kane before Kane fights back and throws Punk in the ring. Daniel Bryan then gets a few shots in on the WWE Champion before Kane lays both Bryan and Punk out with a chokeslam for each of them! Kane then looks at A.J., who is sitting on the stage and laughing.

Before he faces David Otunga on the No Way Out pre-show this Sunday night, “The Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay, with The Funkadactyls, Cameron & Naomi, in tow, appears on SmackDown. Brodus states that, if he is banned from competing on RAW and is banned from getting anywhere near John Laurinaitis’ “prized possession”, Big Show. Brodus continues that he is confident that John Cena is going to take care of Big Show at No Way Out. “The Funkasaurus” then says that he went to Laurinaitis and demanded some good competition and “Big Johnny” assured Brodus that he will get an opponent that will put Brodus on his back. However, what Brodus gets is Heath Slater with “The Funkasaurus” making quick work of Slater, hitting the Funkasplash to pick up the win. After the match, David Otunga strikes, assaulting the left leg of Brodus, repeatedly slamming and stretching out the knee of Brodus, leaving “The Funkasaurus” writhing in pain in the ring. What kind of condition will Brodus Clay be in for his pre-show match against David Otunga this Sunday night?

With Divas Champion Layla a guest on commentary, “The Glamazon” Beth Phoenix went one-on-one with Alicia Fox. In the end, it was Beth Phoenix hitting the Glam Slam on Alicia Fox en route to picking up the win.

After Big Show knocked out WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon on RAW, RAW & SmackDown General Manager John Laurinaitis makes a rare SmackDown appearance, saying that he apologized to the Chairman, face-to-face, on Tuesday morning, but he will apologize again as the GM says that he is sorry for Big Show accidentally knocking out McMahon. Laurinaitis continues, saying that, given McMahon’s age, the Chairman should stay out of Big Show’s way! The GM then shows the footage of Big Show knocking out the Chairman on RAW, presenting it as a warning for anyone who does not get out of Big Show’s path. Laurinaitis then says that, whenever his job is on the line, he wins, but with his job on the line once again at No Way Out, he has absolute faith that Big Show will defeat John Cena in their Steel Cage Match before the GM brings Big Show to the ring. Big Show says that he has no reason to lie about knocking Mr. McMahon out on RAW due to his iron-clad contract. Show continues that, as far back as his WCW days, he was never allowed to reach his “full potential” due to the “faces” of the company like Sting, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair. When he became a free agent, everyone told him to talk to Vince McMahon and the Chairman steered him in the direction of becoming an entertainer. Show continues that, for fourteen years, he did it McMahon’s way while guys like CM Punk, Randy Orton, and Sheamus rose to the top while he was supposed to be happy about being a “special attraction”.

Big Show says that he even tried being like John Cena before realizing that he is nothing like Cena and, at No Way Out, he will not be “burdened” by what the fans think, saying that, what he will do to Cena will be “calculated”. Show then vows to make Cena “suffer” inside the Steel Cage before saying that he is looking at the Steel Cage Match as his “first match”, guaranteeing that he will win at No Way Out. Big Show and John Laurinaitis then exit the ring, but their departure is halted by commentator Michael Cole, who says that he has it on “good authority” that John Cena is on his way to the arena and will be there before the end of the show! Big Show responds to this news by saying that, if Cena is going to be there, then he will not be hard to find.

With an Intercontinental Title defense against Cody Rhodes two nights away at No Way Out, the Intercontinental Champion was in action as Christian went one-on-one with “The All-American American” Jack Swagger, with Vickie Guerrero in his corner, in a non-title match. In the end, it was Christian hitting the frog splash on Jack Swagger en route to picking up the win.

Two more jobbers would try their hands at making a name for themselves at the expense of Ryback as Ari Cohen & Mike Testa faced “The Undefeated Juggernaut” in a 2-on-1 Tornado Handicap Match. Ryback would dominate the two independents, hitting the Double Machine Buster and piling both guys up, pinning Mike Testa for the win.

After being attacked from behind by Damien Sandow last week, Tyson Kidd was looking for revenge against “The Intellectual Savior of the Masses”. Before the match, Damien Sandow says he is there to “help” the fans and “liberate” them, but before he could teach his “lesson”, he was accosted by an “ignoramus”. In the end, it was Damien Sandow hitting the straight jacket neckbreaker en route to picking up another impressive win.

After hearing what Big Show had to say earlier in the night, John Cena appeared on SmackDown to call out his No Way Out opponent. Cena says that he was not originally scheduled to be there. Cena continues that he has been looking for Big Show, asking how you hide someone like Big Show. Cena is then interrupted by John Laurinaitis, who hobbles to the ring. The GM says that Big Show is not coming out there before blaming Cena for Mr. McMahon getting knocked out, revealing that he opted to send Big Show home. Laurinaitis also reveals that the WWE Board of Directors have declared that the Steel Cage Match at No Way Out will take place no matter what. Cena then states that, if he cannot “knock out” Big Show tonight, then Laurinaitis is next on the list. The GM says that, if Cena lays a hand on him, then he will fire Cena right now! Cena says that, given the Board of Directors edict, Laurinaitis cannot fire him. Cena then calls Laurinaitis an “ass-kisser”, but that all changes at No Way Out when Laurinaitis will be fired. Cena then gets ready to fight the GM, but Laurinaitis says that, if Cena attacks Laurinaitis now and Big Show wins at No Way Out, then the next thing Laurinaitis will do on RAW is fire Cena. Cena then says that, one way or another, someone is getting fired after No Way Out. With that, Cena lays out the GM with a hard right hand!
