WWE Friday Night SmackDown May 6, 2011 Results

    By Cassidy
    | May 6, 2011
    WWE SmackDown

Five nights after a grueling and unforgettable Extreme Rules, the 611th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Amway Center in Orlando, FL. Five nights after surviving Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay and, with some help from his best friend, Edge, in a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules, SmackDown would be home to a celebration as new World Heavyweight Champion Christian would have his Championship Celebration!

    Match Results

    • Sheamus def. Daniel Bryan by pin following the Brogue Kick.
    • Ezekiel Jackson (with The Corre) def. Big Show (with Kane) by pin following a clothesline.
    • Layla def. Alicia Fox by pin following the Lay Out.
    • Sin Cara def. Tyson Kidd by pin following the moonsault side slam.
    • World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton def. Christian (c) by pin following the RKO to win the World Heavyweight Title.

    Detailed Results

Five nights after achieving his lifelong dream of becoming the World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Alberto Del Rio in a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules, the show kicks off with the new World Heavyweight Champion Christian! The new champion proclaims that he has been waiting “seventeen years” to be the World Heavyweight Champion and his “dreams” of what it would feel like to be the champion “pales in comparison” to what it actually feels like to be the World Heavyweight Champion! Christian continues that, before he came out there, he got a text from his best friend, Edge, that told him to “enjoy” the moment because he has “earned” it! An emotional Christian then thanks Edge before thanking the WWE fans, his “peeps” and restating what Edge said when he retired by saying the World Heavyweight Title did not belong to any “one” person as it belongs to all the fans! Christian’s emotional speech is then interrupted by “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry as Mark Henry states that he was “cheering for” Christian at Extreme Rules because he looked at Christian, then looked at himself and saw his opportunity to become the next World Heavyweight Champion! Christian then makes fun of Mark Henry by saying that the title is made out of “gold” and not “chocolate”! Mark Henry then states that Edge is not there to “protect” Christian anymore as Christian is all by himself!

This brings out the seven-foot “Punjabi Giant” The Great Khali, along with his brother and translator Ranjin Singh, who tells Christian that the new World Heavyweight Champion should defend the gold against a former World Heavyweight Champion in The Great Khali! Christian responds by stating that, if they got any more “freaks” out there, they could all go and join the “circus”! However, another deserving contender would come out as “The Viper” Randy Orton comes out and states that he is not a “freak”, but he is Randy Orton and, while he is new to SmackDown, he would like his name added to the list of potential contenders for the World Heavyweight Title! This brings out the General Manager of SmackDown, Theodore Long, as the GM states that he is going to leave the decision with the fans in Orlando! Long would then poll the fans on who they would like to see Christian defend the World Heavyweight Title against and the crowd overwhelmingly roars their approval for Randy Orton to challenge Christian, making Orton the new #1 Contender before the GM makes the blockbuster announcement that Christian will defend the World Heavyweight Title against Randy Orton on SmackDown! Just five nights after winning the World Heavyweight Title in a grueling Ladder Match at Extreme Rules, can Christian successfully defend the World Heavyweight Title against Randy Orton?

Backstage, The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh are confronted by an Indian gentleman by the name of Jinder Mahal, who questions Ranjin’s managerial skills of his brother, Khali, and states that he is not “condemning” Singh, but he finds Ranjin’s decisions “interesting”! What is the relationship between The Great Khali, Ranjin Singh, and Jinder Mahal?

Five nights after losing the United States Title to Kofi Kingston in a Tables Match at Extreme Rules, former United States Champion Sheamus would be looking to rebound on SmackDown as “The Celtic Warrior” would go one-on-one with fellow former United States Champion Daniel Bryan! At the end of a hard-fought match, it was Sheamus blasting Daniel Bryan with the Brogue Kick from the outside of the ring and following it up with a second Brogue Kick in the ring en route to picking up the win!

Five nights after failing to defeat Rey Mysterio in a Falls Count Anywhere Match at Extreme Rules, Cody Rhodes would make an appearance on SmackDown! Rhodes would state that Rey Mysterio added “insult to injury” by spitting the poison mist into his eyes at Extreme Rules before calling Rey a “coward”! Rhodes continues that his eyes are still “burning”, but even through “burning eyes”, he can still see that all of the fans are “still ugly” before, once again, ordering his assistants to hand out paper bags to the fans in Orlando to put over their faces! Rhodes would then state that his face may “repulse” them, their “ugliness” offends him!

Five nights after he and Kane took advantage of the dissension between Corre members Wade Barrett & Ezekiel Jackson, one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Big Show, would go one-on-one with Corre member Ezekiel Jackson, with Corre members Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, & Justin Gabriel at ringside, but before the match begins, the other half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Kane, comes out to be in Big Show’s corner! During the match, a brawl would break out on the outside of the ring as The Corre would attack Kane, which would bring Big Show to the outside of the ring as Show would knock down the members of The Corre before re-entering the ring, but the distraction would still be enough for Ezekiel Jackson to blast Big Show with a clothesline, allowing Ezekiel to pick up an impressive win! After the match, Wade Barrett would confront Ezekiel Jackson, but Ezekiel would just walk away from his Corre teammates! What is Ezekiel Jackson’s standing with The Corre?

Five nights after defeating Michelle McCool in a Loser Leaves WWE Match, forcing McCool out of the WWE, former Women’s Champion Layla would go one-on-one with former Divas Champion Alicia Fox! In the end, it was Layla hitting the Lay Out on Alicia Fox to pick up a quick and dominant victory! After the match, Layla’s celebratory mood would quickly change to a mood of dread as the biggest and baddest threat to the Divas division would arrive as Kharma would come out and, as Layla made a hasty retreat distracting the giant Diva, the ever-confident Alicia Fox would try and cheap shot Kharma with a kick to the back, but Kharma would not be affected by the kick! Kharma would then turn around to face a determined Alicia Fox as the former Divas Champion would attempt another kick on Kharma, but Kharma would grab the leg of Fox and would deliver a vicious clothesline to Fox before planting Fox with the double underhook facebuster! Kharma has laid out Michelle McCool, Maryse, and, now, Alicia Fox in her first week on the scene in the WWE, but who will Kharma target next?

Backstage, Corre members Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, & Justin Gabriel would confront their Corre teammate, Ezekiel Jackson, as Barrett would tell Ezekiel to look at him because Ezekiel is going to want to see what is going to happen, but Ezekiel would strike first as “Big Zeke” would fight off the members of The Corre, but the numbers game would catch up with Ezekiel as the three-on-one beat down would commence on Ezekiel as The Corre would assault Ezekiel before they would dump a heavy receptacle of dishes on top of the big man before Wade Barrett would tell Ezekiel that it’s been “nice” working with Ezekiel! After his apparent and physical ex-communication from The Corre, how will Ezekiel Jackson respond to The Corre’s assault?

With Chavo Guerrero watching the match closely as a guest on commentary, the international sensation Sin Cara would be in action on SmackDown as Cara would go one-on-one with “The Crowned Prince” Tyson Kidd! In the end, it was the always impressive Sin Cara hitting his moonsault side slam on Tyson Kidd en route to picking up the win! After the match, Chavo Guerrero would enter the ring and come face-to-face with Sin Cara before Chavo would shake hands with Sin Cara!

Then it was time for the main event as, five nights after surviving a Ladder Match against Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules to achieve his dream of becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion, Christian would make his first defense of the title as “Captain Charisma” would defend the World Heavyweight Title against “The Viper” Randy Orton, five nights after Orton outlasted CM Punk in a Last Man Standing Match at Extreme Rules! At the end of an incredibly hard-fought match, it was Christian going for a move off of the second rope, but Randy Orton would come out of nowhere and would catch Christian in mid-air with the RKO en route to pinning Christian to end the dream of Christian after only five nights as Randy Orton would become the new World Heavyweight Champion! After the match, the now former World Heavyweight Champion, Christian, would have a look of disbelief on his face as the realization hit that he is no longer the World Heavyweight Champion before the former champion would make the long walk backstage! How will Christian respond to losing the World Heavyweight Title after only five nights as champion?
