WWE Monday Night RAW May 16, 2011 Results

    By Cassidy
    | May 17, 2011
    WWE Raw

Just six nights before WWE Over The Limit, the 938th edition of WWE Monday Night RAW came to you, live, from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX. Before they square off in the grueling and unforgiving “I Quit” Match with the WWE Title on the line, WWE Champion John Cena and his Over The Limit opponent, The Miz, would both be on RAW! Also, six nights before they go one-on-one in a match where, if Michael Cole wins, he gets the Hall of Fame ring of Jerry “The King” Lawler and gets personally inducted into the Hall of Fame by “The King” himself, Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler would make the match official in a Contract Signing on RAW!

    Match Results

    • Non-Title: CM Punk def. Kofi Kingston by pin following the GTS.
    • Non-Title: Kelly Kelly def. Brie Bella (with Nikki Bella) by roll-up.
    • Rey Mysterio def. Alberto Del Rio (with R-Truth) by DQ after Ricardo Rodriguez interferes.
    • Non-Title: David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty (with CM Punk & Mason Ryan) def. Kane & Big Show by Michael McGillicutty pinning Kane following the McGillicutter.
    • No Holds Barred Match: Non-Title: John Cena def. Jack Swagger by submission to the STF.

    Detailed Results

Six nights before he defends the WWE Title against The Miz in the unforgiving “I Quit” Match at Over The Limit, RAW kicks off with “The Champ” John Cena, but before Cena can even say a word, the associate of The Miz, Alex Riley, interrupts and mocks John Cena before introducing a video package hyping the damage that The Miz has done to John Cena in their past encounters! Alex Riley then introduces his mentor, The Miz, before both Superstars make their way to the ring to confront John Cena as Riley states that, ever since The Miz’s WWE career began, people have told Miz to “quit”, but The Miz has proven them wrong and will do so again at Over The Limit because The Miz will not say “I Quit”! John Cena would respond by telling Riley that Riley is as “stupid” as he is “useless” before mocking the former WWE Champion and saying that there is a “reason” he chose the “I Quit” Match because he can look into The Miz’s eyes and see “fear”! Cena continues that Miz is “scared” and, after Over The Limit, Miz will be proclaiming that he is The Miz and he “quit”!

The anonymous General Manager of RAW then interrupts with an email that announces that, as long as The Miz and Alex Riley are not involved in the match, then it is “only fair” that he allow The Miz to choose John Cena’s opponent for later on in the evening and, not only that, but The Miz will get to choose the stipulation for that match as well! Upon hearing this announcement, The Miz would tell John Cena that, he does not know who he will choose as Cena’s opponent or what type of match it will be, but he does know that it will be “awesome”! With the fate of John Cena in his hands, who will The Miz select as Cena’s opponent in the main event and what type of match will they face off in?

After The New Nexus was pummeled by WWE Tag Team Champions Kane & Big Show last week, the leader of The New Nexus, CM Punk, would be looking to lead by example as “The Straightedge Savior” would go one-on-one with United States Champion Kofi Kingston in a non-title match with The New Nexus watching from the staging area! In the end and without the help of The New Nexus, CM Punk would hit the GTS on Kofi Kingston en route to picking up the win! After the match, CM Punk would join his New Nexus followers on the stage and states that what he just did was “leadership by example” before saying that it is just “step one” and he is going to do things his “way” from now on and he will not stop until The New Nexus is the “most dominant force the WWE has ever seen”! What does CM Punk & The New Nexus have in store to re-establish themselves on RAW?

The Divas would be in action on RAW as Divas Champion Brie Bella, with her twin sister Nikki in her corner, would go one-on-one with Kelly Kelly in a non-title match! In the end, it was Kelly Kelly surprising Brie Bella with a roll-up to pick up the win! Kelly Kelly’s celebration would be non-existent, however, as Nikki Bella would attack Kelly Kelly from behind as both of The Bella Twins would double team Kelly Kelly, but The Bellas would be frozen in place once the haunting music of “The Diva of Destruction” Kharma would sound as Kharma would make her way to the ring with her sights set on a vulnerable Kelly Kelly, but The Bella Twins would try and use their two-on-one advantage to overcome Kharma, but the unreal dominance of Kharma would overcome both Bellas as Kharma would knock Nikki Bella down before Brie Bella would try a dive off of the top rope, but Kharma would catch Brie and, as Nikki Bella escapes, Kharma would plant Brie Bella with the Kharma Buster! After dominating The Bella Twins, Kharma would turn her attention back to Kelly Kelly as “The Diva of Destruction” would get in the face of a frightened Kelly Kelly before flicking the forehead of Kelly Kelly in symbolic fashion! As her tear through the Divas division continues, why has Kharma repeatedly spared Kelly Kelly?

One week after being laid out with the What’s Up by R-Truth, “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio would appear on RAW as Rey states that he has been “passed up” for title opportunities before, but he does not go around “blaming others” for his own “problems” and he does not “flip out” for not getting his “way” as prefers to handle his “business” like a “man” before Rey would call R-Truth to show Truth why Truth does not belong in the main event! After waiting for quite some time for R-Truth to arrive, Rey is instead met by the arrival of a familiar rival as Ricardo Rodriguez would introduce his boss, “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio! Del Rio would blame Rey Mysterio for losing the Triple Threat #1 Contender’s Match last week and Rey is the reason that he is not facing John Cena for the WWE Title before telling Rey that Rey does not “deserve” to be on the same show as him because he is a “full-blooded Mexican” unlike the people of San Antonio! Del Rio would then enter the ring as Del Rio would state that the United States “begged” him to come to America, unlike the San Antonio fans, who came to the country like a bunch of “rattas”! Rey responds by saying that he is not going to stand by while Alberto Del Rio insults his people before saying that, if R-Truth is not going to come out there, then he has “no problem” shutting Del Rio up!

The impromptu match would then get underway as “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio would go one-on-one with a familiar rival in “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio! In the middle of the match, with Rey Mysterio in control of the match, R-Truth would appear high above the crowd as Truth would shout that Rey is a “thief” and shouting for someone to “call the police” because Rey “stole” his spot in the #1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match last week! Even the distraction of R-Truth would not deter Rey Mysterio as Rey would regain the advantage, but when Rey would go for the 619, Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, would jump up on the ring apron to sacrifice himself to the 619 to protect Del Rio, which would cause a DQ win for Mysterio! After the match, Del Rio would send Rey shoulder-first into the steel ring post before hitting a senton bomb on Mysterio! This would leave Rey vulnerable to an attack by R-Truth as Truth would attack Rey from behind and lay Rey out with the What’s Up! R-Truth would then tell Rey that no one “challenges the Truth” before telling Rey that, this Sunday at Over The Limit, Rey is “gonna get got”! The unbalanced R-Truth would then pummel Rey further before delivering a kick to Rey and finally exiting the ring! What will happen this Sunday night at Over The Limit when Rey Mysterio and R-Truth go one-on-one?

Six nights before they go one-on-one at Over The Limit in a match where, if Michael Cole wins, he will not only get the Hall of Fame ring of Jerry “The King” Lawler, but “The King” will personally induct Cole into the Hall of Fame, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Michael Cole would come face-to-face as they would take part in the official contract signing for their match! With Jack Swagger standing nearby for protection, a relaxed and confident Michael Cole would already be seated as Cole would state that he will only sign the contract if Jerry Lawler reiterates the terms of their match this Sunday at Over The Limit and “The King” does so as Lawler states that, if Cole wins at Over The Limit, then he will not only give his Hall of Fame ring to Cole, but he will also induct the self-proclaimed “Voice of the WWE” into the Hall of Fame! Upon hearing the terms of the match again, Michael Cole would gladly sign the contract and Jerry Lawler would also sign the contract, making the match official! After the match was made was made official, Michael Cole would reveal some “fine print” of the contract that would make their match a “Kiss My Foot” Match where the loser must kiss the winner’s foot just like Michael Cole and Jack Swagger forced Jim Ross to do last month! Cole would then state that, should he lose, it would not be the first time that Lawler has had to kiss the foot of a “superior athlete” before Cole would introduce embarrassing footage from the 1995 King of the Ring event where Jerry Lawler was forced to kiss the foot of Bret Hart before Bret forced Lawler to actually kiss his own foot as well!

Michael Cole would then reveal his own diseased, discolored foot riddled with athlete’s foot before proclaiming that it is Lawler’s “destiny” to kiss the rotten foot before Lawler would tell Cole to “shut up” before Lawler states that Cole is “no Bret Hart” and Cole is “not even a Jack Swagger” as Swagger is a former World Heavyweight Champion and Cole has lowered Swagger to being a “lowly sidekick”! Swagger would not be phased by the mind games of Jerry Lawler, but Michael Cole would seem to figuratively stick his foot in his mouth by saying that “no one even remembers” Jack Swagger’s reign as World Heavyweight Champion and, as Swagger looks at Cole in disbelief, Cole would continue that Swagger being his “sidekick” may have been the “best thing” to happen to Swagger’s career and that the “only reason” that Swagger was at WrestleMania this year was because of him! Michael Cole would then turn around to see an unhappy Jack Swagger looming over him as Swagger would look at Cole and look at Lawler before telling Lawler that Cole is all his before sarcastically wishing Cole “luck” at Over The Limit before walking away from his former friend as Cole would plead for his “buddy” to come back! Cole would then try and make amends as Michael Cole would proclaim that it was “just a joke” before saying that he and Lawler go back “fourteen years” and he “respects” everything Lawler has done in his career! Lawler would then tell Cole to “stuff it” before saying that it is “too late” for that before Lawler would pull Cole down to the table by his tie and telling Cole that, this Sunday, he is going to stick his foot in Cole’s mouth and “shut it” before Lawler turns the table over on Cole! After months of using Jack Swagger to get the better of Jerry “The King” Lawler, Michael Cole has alienated his only friend and will now face the man he has ridiculed both personally and professionally in a “Kiss My Foot” Match where the loser must kiss the winner’s foot and, if Michael Cole finds a way to win, he will get the Hall of Fame ring of “The King” and will get personally inducted into the Hall of Fame by Jerry Lawler! Who will emerge victorious at Over The Limit in this highly personal match?

After the announcement was made on RAW that, this Sunday at Over The Limit, Kane & Big Show will defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against New Nexus leader CM Punk and his monstrous follower, Mason Ryan, CM Punk & Mason Ryan would be at ringside as their fellow New Nexus members David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty would face WWE Tag Team Champions Kane & Big Show in a non-title match! During the match, Mason Ryan would distract the referee, which would allow CM Punk to deliver a kick to the back of Kane’s head, allowing Michael McGillicutty to take advantage with the McGillicutter on Kane en route to picking up the upset win over the WWE Tag Team Champions! Can CM Punk & Mason Ryan achieve the same success this Sunday at Over The Limit to take the WWE Tag Team Titles from Kane & Big Show?

Then it was time for The Miz presented main event as The Miz & Alex Riley would come out as The Miz would announce that John Cena would be competing in a No Holds Barred Match before Miz would demand that “The Champ” come out there! Cena would then hesitantly come out, keeping a close eye on Miz and Riley, which would leave Cena open for an attack from behind by Jack Swagger, who Miz would reveal to be Cena’s opponent for the No Holds Barred Match! At the end of a grueling match that saw steel chairs and exposed barricades utilized, it was John Cena prevailing as Cena would hit the Attitude Adjustment on Jack Swagger before forcing Swagger to tap out to the STF to pick up the win! After the match, The Miz would state that there are many ways to make another man say “I Quit” as Miz states that he could throw Cena off of the stage to the concrete or Miz could put Cena against the stage and ram a camera into him! Miz continues that he could use the steel ring or a steel pipe against Cena and, as Miz gets on the ring apron, Miz tells Cena that he is more “ruthless” than anyone John Cena has ever faced before “guaranteeing” that, after their “I Quit” Match at Over The Limit, he will be declared the “new WWE Champion”! Miz then states that he has “no problem” using that steel pipe against Cena as Miz would send Alex Riley into the ring to distract Cena long enough for Miz to get a pipe shot in on the ribs of Cena, but Cena would fight back, sending both Miz & Riley from the ring before telling The Miz to “bring all” of Miz’s ways to defeat him because he will need them all because Miz will say “I Quit” this Sunday at Over The Limit! What will happen this Sunday at Over The Limit when John Cena defends the WWE Title against The Miz in a match where the only way to win is to force your opponent to say the words, “I Quit”?

Overall a pretty predictable Raw, but I did enjoy the added stipulation to the Cole-Lawler match. Lawler needs to teach Cole a lesson in this one and that feud come to an end. I personally love seeing Lawler in the ring, he still is a solid wrestler, but put him in another fued. He proved he could still do it with the Miz which is why I dont understand why he goes from being the King of old to struggling in his feud against Cole. I was thinking Swagger could turn on Cole as well and Lawler and Swagger go… Read more »
