WWE Friday Night SmackDown April 29, 2011 Results

    By Cassidy
    | April 29, 2011
    WWE SmackDown

Just two nights before Extreme Rules and four nights after an earth-shaking and unforgettable WWE Draft, the 610th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC. Four nights after Big Show was drafted to RAW via the 2011 Draft, new WWE Tag Team Champions Kane & Big Show would defend their newly won titles against the team they defeated for the gold last week, Corre members Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel! Also, before he departs to his new home on Monday Night RAW and two nights before he faces Cody Rhodes in a Falls Count Anywhere Match at Extreme Rules, “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio would go one-on-one with one of SmackDown’s newest acquisitions, “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry!

    Match Results

    • Sin Cara (in his in-ring SmackDown debut) def. Jack Swagger (with Michael Cole) by roll-up.
    • WWE Tag Team Championship: Kane & Big Show (c) def. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel by Kane (c) pinning Heath Slater following the chokeslam to retain.
    • Rey Mysterio def. Mark Henry by DQ after Cody Rhodes interferes.
    • Layla and Michelle McCool fight to a Double Count-Out.
    • Randy Orton & Christian def. Alberto Del Rio & Brodus Clay by Randy Orton pinning Brodus Clay following the RKO.

    Detailed Results

Four nights after the shocking reveal was made that he was drafted to SmackDown via the 2011 WWE Draft on RAW, SmackDown kicks off with the seven-time World Champion himself as “The Viper” Randy Orton opens the show just two nights before he faces CM Punk in a Last Man Standing Match at Extreme Rules! Orton states that, due to the 2011 Draft, he is a part of the SmackDown roster for the first time in five years! Orton continues that, while he looks forward to the challenges that lie ahead for him on SmackDown, he has “unfinished business” with CM Punk! Before Orton can continue, he is interrupted by one of the newest RAW Superstars in “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre! The draft pick for RAW states that he is moving “onward and upward” to Monday Night RAW as McIntyre states that it is a “real shame” that the WWE fans will have to “wait” a while longer to see Drew McIntyre Vs. Randy Orton! McIntyre would then state that he is just out there to say “hello” and “goodbye” before delivering a kick to the mid-section of Orton and setting up for the Future Shock DDT, but Orton would counter with a lightning quick RKO to “The Chosen One”!

Randy Orton would then start to continue where he left off before Drew McIntyre’s interruption, but Orton is interrupted a second time, this time by one of SmackDown’s newest Superstars, the former apprentice of The Miz, Alex Riley, but before Riley can even say a word, Orton plants Riley with the RKO as well! Orton would, once again, look to continue his point, but “The Viper” is interrupted again, this time by new RAW draftee Alberto Del Rio and his entourage of his protégé, Brodus Clay, and his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez! Del Rio states that he feels “bad” for the fans because they are “losing” him from SmackDown and, after Extreme Rules, SmackDown is also going to lose the World Heavyweight Championship, because he is bringing it with him to RAW! Del Rio then states that Orton may know how to make a “first impression”, but he knows how to make a “lasting impression”! Del Rio and Brodus Clay would then look to attack Orton, but Christian would rush out to even the odds before the General Manager of SmackDown, Theodore Long, comes out to announce that the main event will see Christian team with Randy Orton to take on the team of Alberto Del Rio and his protégé, Brodus Clay! This would lead to a stare-down between the two sides as Del Rio and Brodus Clay would exit and stand on the ring apron as Del Rio would wink at Orton, but would make a hasty exit when confronted by “The Viper” as Christian would knock Brodus Clay off of the ring apron with a dropkick! What will happen in the main event when Randy Orton teams with Christian to face new RAW draftee Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay?

In a meeting of new draftees, former Intercontinental Champion and one of the newest acquisitions for RAW, Kofi Kingston, was set for action, but new SmackDown acquisition, Sheamus, would attack Kofi from behind and would assault Kofi on the outside of the ring before the United States Champion would blast Kofi with the Brogue Kick! Sheamus has made an impact in his debut as a SmackDown Superstar, but what does the United States Champion have in store for the rest of the SmackDown roster?

Four nights after his match with Hall of Famer Jim Ross that left him with a busted lip and an injured eye, the self-proclaimed “Voice of the WWE” Michael Cole would appear on SmackDown two nights before he teams with Jack Swagger to face Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler in a Country Whipping Match at Extreme Rules! Cole would state that he is going to “single-handedly pick apart” the “royal imposter”, Jerry Lawler, and “single-handedly dissect” that “fat, pork-pulling sow”, Jim Ross!

After insulting his Hall of Fame opponents, Michael Cole would introduce his trainer and tag team partner in one of the newest RAW Superstars, “The All-American American” Jack Swagger as Swagger would go one-on-one with one of SmackDown’s newest acquisitions in the masked international sensation, Sin Cara! During the match, Michael Cole would hand Jack Swagger a leather belt, which Swagger would wrap around his hand, but Sin Cara would not give Swagger the chance to use the weapon as Cara would roll Swagger up en route to picking up the win! After the match, Swagger would try and attack Sin Cara, but Cara would send Swagger to the outside of the ring and would follow it up with a high cross body to “The All-American American”! What will happen this Sunday night at Extreme Rules when Jack Swagger teams with Michael Cole to face the Hall of Famers, Jim Ross & Jerry “The King” Lawler in a Country Whipping Match?

Then it was time for The Corre to try and get back on track as Corre members Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel would challenge the new WWE Tag Team Champions, Kane and RAW’s largest draftee, Big Show! In the end, it was Kane & Big Show planting both Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel with chokeslams en route to Kane pinning Heath Slater to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles! Is there any team in the WWE who can defeat the gargantuan WWE Tag Team Champions, Kane & Big Show?

Before going one-on-one with Mark Henry, new RAW Superstar Rey Mysterio tells the fans that they have been through a lot and his “journey” will continue as a RAW Superstar before telling the fans that, regardless of what brand he is on, the fans will always be a part of the “619”!

After turning on his teammates, John Cena and Christian, during a 6-Man Tag Match on RAW, new SmackDown draftee Mark Henry would state that it is unfortunate for Rey Mysterio that Rey’s “farewell” is his “debut”!

Four nights after being drafted to Monday Night RAW via the 2011 WWE Draft and two nights before going one-on-one with Cody Rhodes in a Falls Count Anywhere Match at Extreme Rules, “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio would compete in his departing match from SmackDown as Rey would go one-on-one with one of SmackDown’s newest acquisitions in “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry! During the match, Rey Mysterio would look poised for victory over an impressively dominant Mark Henry, but Cody Rhodes would rush out and attack Rey, pummeling his Extreme Rules opponent on the outside of the ring and in the crowd before Rhodes would send Rey into the ring where Mark Henry would flatten Rey with the World’s Strongest Slam before Rhodes would put a paper bag over Rey’s head like he did last week! What will happen this Sunday at Extreme Rules when Rey Mysterio looks for revenge against Cody Rhodes when they square off in a Falls Count Anywhere Match?

Four nights after Layla attacked Michelle McCool in an emotional attack on her former best friend, the former LayCool teammates would square off as Michelle McCool would go one-on-one with Layla! The personal match would quickly spill to the outside where the former friends would brawl and claw and scratch at each other as referees would try to break up the fight between the two Divas, eventually succeeding before Layla would challenge Michelle McCool to a “real match” at Extreme Rules with no count-outs and no disqualifications and that it might finally “shut up” Michelle McCool, which McCool accepts before accepting the match under “one condition” that the “loser leaves the WWE”, which Layla accepts! Who will leave Extreme Rules with their career intact this Sunday when Layla faces Michelle McCool with no count-outs and no disqualifications with the loser being forced to leave the WWE?

Then it was time for the main event as the biggest SmackDown acquisition from the 2011 Draft, “The Viper” Randy Orton would team with one of the #1 Contenders for the vacant World Heavyweight Title, Christian, to face new RAW acquisition and the other #1 Contender for the vacant World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio, and his protégé, Brodus Clay! In the end, it was Alberto Del Rio narrowly avoiding the RKO of Randy Orton and tagging in Brodus Clay, only for Brodus Clay to immediately get hit with the RKO by Orton en route to Orton pinning Clay to pick up the win for himself and Christian! What will happen this Sunday at Extreme Rules when Christian and Alberto Del Rio face off in a Ladder Match for the vacant World Heavyweight Title? Will Christian win the World Heavyweight Title for the first time in his career or will Alberto Del Rio bring the World Heavyweight Title with him to RAW?
