WWE Friday Night SmackDown April 1, 2011 Results

    By Cassidy
    | April 1, 2011
    WWE SmackDown

Just two nights before the biggest event of the year, WrestleMania, the 606th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown would come to you from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL. As part of the festivities leading up to the big night, SmackDown would feature a special look at the WrestleMania Axxess fan convention in Atlanta! Two nights before he and The Corre face the team of Kane, Big Show, Santino Marella, & Vladimir Kozlov in an 8-Man Tag Match, new Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett would make his first title defense against the man he won the title from last week, Kofi Kingston!

    Match Results

    • Intercontinental Championship: Kofi Kingston def. Wade Barrett (c) by DQ after The Corre interferes. Wade Barrett (c) retains.
    • Cody Rhodes def. Chris Masters by pin following Cross Rhodes.

    Detailed Results

The show kicks off with gold on the line as, one week after losing the Intercontinental Title, Kofi Kingston would challenge new Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett for the gold! During the match, Kofi Kingston would hit Trouble In Paradise on Wade Barrett and would be seconds away from regaining the Intercontinental Title, but The Corre would come out and attack Kofi Kingston, keeping the Intercontinental Title within The Corre! After the match, The Corre would look to beat down Kofi Kingston, but Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov would come out to try and help Kofi, only to be beat down by The Corre as well! The monstrous team of Kane & Big Show would then emerge and things would change as the two monsters would clear the ring of The Corre as Kane, Big Show, Santino Marella, Vladimir Kozlov, and Kofi Kingston stood tall in the middle of the ring! What will happen in two nights at WrestleMania when the odds are evened against The Corre as Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, & Justin Gabriel face the team of Kane, Big Show, Santino Marella, & Vladimir Kozlov in an 8-Man Tag Match?

Four nights after narrowly missing getting his hands on Michael Cole only to be held back by Cole’s personal security and having soda thrown in his face, Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler would appear on SmackDown just two nights before he faces Michael Cole, with his trainer Jack Swagger in his corner, with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Referee! With Michael Cole leaving just before his appearance, a determined Jerry Lawler tells his WrestleMania opponent that, when you say “hurtful things”, then there are “consequences” to pay! Lawler continues that it is probably “smart” that Cole is not out there because he would not “make it” to WrestleMania, but he would make sure that Cole would not make it either! Lawler then states that everything that Michael Cole has done has been with the “help” of Jack Swagger, but Lawler vows that Stone Cold Steve Austin will “take care” of Swagger at WrestleMania, leaving him to face Cole one-on-one! Lawler then states that he is not just going to defeat Cole, he is going to “shut” Cole’s mouth! After putting Jerry “The King” Lawler through personal hell over recent weeks, will Jerry Lawler extract his revenge on Michael Cole this Sunday night at WrestleMania with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Referee?

One week after viciously assaulting his WrestleMania opponent, Rey Mysterio, with his protective face mask and a steel knee brace, which he used to blast Rey in the face with, Cody Rhodes would be in action just two nights before he goes one-on-one with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania as Rhodes would face “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters! During the match, Michael Cole, with his personal security in tow, would return to his “Cole Mine”! In the end, it was Cody Rhodes narrowly avoiding the Masterlock and would headbutt Chris Masters with the protective mask, allowing Rhodes to hit the Cross Rhodes on Masters en route to picking up the win! After the match, Rey Mysterio would rush out and attack Cody Rhodes, but when Rey set up for the 619 and even exposed the steel knee brace to use against Rhodes, Rhodes would narrowly escape the ring! What will happen this Sunday night at WrestleMania when Rey Mysterio and Cody Rhodes go one-on-one?
