WWE Friday Night SmackDown March 25, 2011 Results

    By Cassidy
    | March 25, 2011
    WWE SmackDown

Just nine nights before WrestleMania, the 605th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH. Nine nights before his epic No Holds Barred showdown with Triple H, the one and only “Phenom” of the WWE would appear on SmackDown as The Undertaker would answer the challenge of Triple H to appear on RAW this Monday night to go face-to-face with “The Game”! After his WrestleMania Rewind Match against Randy Orton was interrupted by CM Punk, who would assault Orton with a steel wrench in the parking lot, “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio would go one-on-one with his opponent from WrestleMania XXVI in “The Straightedge Savior” CM Punk in a WrestleMania Rewind Match! After their vicious assault on Kane and Big Show on last week’s SmackDown, The Corre would be looking to add to their gold count as Corre member Wade Barrett would challenge Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Title!

    Match Results

    • WrestleMania Rewind Match: Rey Mysterio def. CM Punk by DQ after Cody Rhodes interferes.
    • Non-Title: Edge def. Drew McIntyre by submission to the Edgeucator.
    • LayCool def. Kelly Kelly & Rosa Mendes by Layla pinning Rosa Mendes following the Lay Out.
    • Intercontinental Championship: Wade Barrett (with Heath Slater) def. Kofi Kingston (c) by pin following Wasteland to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
    • Jack Swagger def. R-Truth by submission to the ankle lock.
    • Christian (with Edge) def. Alberto Del Rio (with Brodus Clay & Ricardo Rodriguez) by pin following the Killswitch.

    Detailed Results

One week after Alberto Del Rio delivered a vicious con-chair-to to his arm, SmackDown kicks off with World Heavyweight Champion Edge arguing with SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long as Edge accuses Long of showing “favoritism” towards Del Rio before Long states that their “discussion is over” before revealing that, if either Edge or Alberto Del Rio lay a hand on the other, then they will be banned from WrestleMania! After the vicious assault with a con-chair-to by Alberto Del Rio last week, can Edge keep from seeking revenge on Alberto Del Rio before WrestleMania?

Nine nights before he goes one-on-one with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania, the opening match of the night would see “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio relive his WrestleMania match from last year as Rey would go one-on-one with “The Straightedge Savior” CM Punk in a WrestleMania Rewind Match just four nights after Punk assaulted his WrestleMania opponent, Randy Orton, with a steel wrench! During the match, both CM Punk and Rey Mysterio would find themselves down and out on the outside of the ring and this would provide the perfect opportunity for Cody Rhodes to launch his heinous attack as Rhodes would grab Rey and send Mysterio face-first into the steel ring post! Rhodes would then blast Rey with multiple headbutts using the protective mask before Rhodes would reveal a steel knee brace much like the one that Rey Mysterio wears in competition and the brace that Rey inadvertently hit Rhodes with several months ago! Rhodes would then deliver a vicious running knee to the face of Rey, intentionally smashing the face of Rey with the metal brace! What is the status of Rey Mysterio following this vicious, pre-meditated attack by Cody Rhodes?

With his arm heavily bandaged following the con-chair-to to the arm by Alberto Del Rio last week, World Heavyweight Champion Edge would go one-on-one with “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre in a non-title match! In the end, it was Edge using his good arm to lock in the Edgeucator on Drew McIntyre, forcing McIntyre to tap out to pick up the win! After the match, Edge would send a clear-cut message to his WrestleMania opponent, Alberto Del Rio, by delivering the Spear to Drew McIntyre! With nine nights until WrestleMania, can Edge resist the urge to get his hands on Alberto Del Rio with a WrestleMania banishment awaiting him if he does?

Nine nights before they team with Dolph Ziggler to face John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi in a 6-Person Mixed Tag Match at WrestleMania, LayCool would be in tag team action as Layla & Michelle McCool, who would come out dressed as Snooki, would face the team of Kelly Kelly & Rosa Mendes! In the end, it was Layla hitting the Lay Out on Rosa Mendes en route to picking up the win for LayCool! After the match, LayCool would run down their WrestleMania opponents by referring to Trish Stratus as “Trash Stratus” and John Morrison as “John Snoreison” before saying that Snooki will be “famous”, but she will never be “famous and flawless”! What will happen in nine nights when Snooki steps into the ring for the first time ever to team with John Morrison and Trish Stratus to take on Dolph Ziggler & LayCool at WrestleMania?

As their hostile takeover of SmackDown continues, Corre members Ezekiel Jackson and WWE Tag Team Champions Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel would be in the corner of their fellow Corre member, Wade Barrett, as Barrett would challenge Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Title! During the match, it was Heath Slater getting on the apron of the ring, but would be laid out with Trouble in Paradise by Kofi Kingston, but the distraction would be enough for Wade Barrett to catch Kofi in the middle of Trouble in Paradise to hit the Wasteland en route to pinning Kofi and becoming the new Intercontinental Champion! After the match, The Corre would add insult to injury as Justin Gabriel would hit the 450 Splash on Kofi Kingston! Now that The Corre is in possession of both the Intercontinental and WWE Tag Team Championships, what is next for The Corre?

Backstage, the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio, would be arguing with SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long over Long’s decision to ban Edge or Alberto Del Rio over any physicality before WrestleMania as Del Rio tells Long that the GM does not have the “guts” to ban him from WrestleMania and Long tells Del Rio that there have been twenty-six WrestleMania events without Del Rio and he can make sure that it is twenty-seven! Can Edge and Alberto Del Rio resist the urge to put their hands on each other when Edge is in Christian’s corner in the main event where Christian goes one-on-one with Alberto Del Rio?

With just nine nights to go until his epic No Holds Barred showdown with Triple H at WrestleMania, The Undertaker would make an appearance on SmackDown to respond to Triple H’s challenge for “The Phenom” to appear and go face-to-face with “The Game” this Monday night on RAW! Undertaker states that “the more things change, the more they stay the same” before saying that Triple H “thinks” that he has the “equation” to defeat him at WrestleMania, but Triple H’s “confidence” is starting to “fade into uncertainty” and that uncertainty will turn into “despair”! Undertaker continues that as the days count down to the “Armageddon of mega-sized proportions”, the words “die trying” are more “prolific” than Triple H thinks as that will be the “epitaph” on Triple H’s “tombstone”! Undertaker then states that he “looks forward” to this Monday night on RAW when he gets to tell Triple H all this “face-to-face”! Undertaker then states that, when Triple H decided to interrupt his return, Triple H’s “number was chosen” because, at WrestleMania, Triple H will put all of his “accolades” and “success” on the line to become a “number” as Triple H’s number will be “nineteen” come WrestleMania! Is what The Undertaker says true? Will Triple H be the nineteenth WrestleMania victim of The Undertaker? What will happen when these two legends go face-to-face this Monday night on RAW?

Four nights after aiding Michael Cole in another heinous attack on Jerry “The King” Lawler on RAW, Cole’s “trainer” Jack Swagger would be in action as “The All-American American” would go one-on-one with R-Truth! In the end, it was Jack Swagger stomping away at the ankle of R-Truth before locking in the ankle lock, forcing R-Truth to tap out to pick up the win! After the match, Michael Cole would get in the ring and mock R-Truth while Jack Swagger continues to punish R-Truth with the ankle lock! What will happen in nine nights at WrestleMania when Michael Cole squares off with Jerry “The King” Lawler with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Referee?

Then it was time for the main event as, nine nights before he challenges Edge for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania, the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title Alberto Del Rio, with protégé Brodus Clay in his corner, would go one-on-one with “Captain Charisma” Christian, with World Heavyweight Champion Edge in his corner, with Edge and Alberto Del Rio forbidden from getting their hands on each other! During the match, Christian would look like he had the match in hand as Christian would go for the pin on Alberto Del Rio, but Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, would place Del Rio’s foot on the bottom rope, preventing the loss! Edge would respond by getting ready to Spear Rodriguez, but Brodus Clay would waylay Edge from behind! Later on in the match, Edge would recover and deliver the Spear to Brodus Clay before blasting Clay in the back with several chair shots! The action on the outside would distract Alberto Del Rio long enough for Christian to hit the Killswitch on Del Rio en route to picking up the win! After the match, Edge would grab a steel chair and would look determined to attack Del Rio with the chair, but Christian would take the chair away from Edge and preventing Edge from taking himself out of WrestleMania! Christian would then realize that there is no rule in place to keep him from attacking Del Rio so Christian would deliver a chair shot to the back of Del Rio, sending Del Rio to the outside, where Edge would shout at Del Rio that he can not wait until WrestleMania when he can get his hands on Del Rio before telling Del Rio that it is his “destiny”! Edge is definitely ready to defend the World Heavyweight Title against Alberto Del Rio in nine nights at WrestleMania, but what will happen between these two before the big event? Can Edge and Alberto Del Rio resist any physicality with their WrestleMania match depending on it?
