WWE Friday Night SmackDown March 18, 2011 Results

    By Cassidy
    | March 18, 2011
    WWE SmackDown

Just sixteen days before WrestleMania, the 604th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. After their recent battle with The Corre, which included both of them wailing on Corre members, as well as each other, with steel chair shots, one of the most dominant teams in WWE history would reunite to combat The Corre as “The Big Red Machine” Kane would team with “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show to challenge The Corre’s Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel for the WWE Tag Team Titles!

    Match Results

    • Non-Title: Edge (with Christian) def. Brodus Clay (with Alberto Del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez) by pin following the Spear.
    • Champion Vs. Champion: King Sheamus def. Kofi Kingston by pin following the Brogue Kick.
    • Cody Rhodes def. Trent Barreta by pin following a headbutt with the protective mask.
    • Layla (with Michelle McCool) def. Kelly Kelly by pin after knocking Kelly Kelly off of the second rope.
    • WWE Tag Team Championship: Kane & Big Show def. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel (c) by DQ after Justin Gabriel (c) pulled the referee out of the ring. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel (c) retain.
    • Jack Swagger def. Chris Masters by submission to the ankle lock.
    • Rey Mysterio def. Ted DiBiase by pin following the 619 and Splash.
    • Steel Cage Match: Christian def. Alberto Del Rio by escaping the cage.

    Detailed Results

Four nights after he and his “trainer” Jack Swagger brutalized two Hall of Famers in Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross, the show kicks off with the introduction of the self-proclaimed “Voice of the WWE”, Michael Cole, as Cole takes his seat in his protective cage at ringside, dubbed the “Cole Mine”!

Just sixteen nights before he defends the World Heavyweight Title against #1 Contender Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania, the World Heavyweight Champion would be in action as Edge would go one-on-one with the protégé of Alberto Del Rio in “The Rhino” Brodus Clay, with Alberto Del Rio in his corner, in a non-title match! During the match, Edge would look poised for victory as he was ready to deliver the Spear to Brodus Clay, but Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, would distract the referee long enough for Del Rio to grab the ankle of Edge, allowing Brodus Clay to ram right into Edge, but Edge would kick out! After seeing the interference of Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez, Christian would rush out and attack Alberto Del Rio, but Christian would be hit with the headbutt by Brodus Clay, but the distraction would be enough for Edge to take advantage and hit the Spear on Brodus Clay en route to picking up the win!

After the match, Alberto Del Rio would hit a dropkick on Edge, but Christian would attack Del Rio again as the two heated rivals would brawl on the outside of the ring and even on the announce table before SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long comes out and brings a halt to the brawl before making the blockbuster announcement that, on SmackDown, Christian will go one-on-one with Alberto Del Rio and, to keep it a one-on-one match, the bout would take place inside a Steel Cage! What will happen when Christian finally gets his hands on Alberto Del Rio in a Steel Cage Match?

Four nights after defeating Daniel Bryan to become the new United States Champion, as well as preserving his career, new United States Champion King Sheamus would go one-on-one with Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston in a Champion Vs. Champion Match! At the end of a hard-fought match, it was King Sheamus hitting the Brogue Kick on Kofi Kingston en route to emerging victorious! What new challenges await the new United States Champion, King Sheamus?

Backstage, Big Show confronts Kane before they challenge for the WWE Tag Team Titles and Big Show propose that they “dominate” just like they used to as a team and “put a dent in The Corre” by taking the WWE Tag Team Titles! Big Show then asks Kane what he thinks and Kane responds by grabbing the throat of Big Show, but Show grabs Kane throat as well before both giants break the others grip and Kane tells Big Show that Show “completes” him and Big Show calls Kane a “crazy man” before smiling! Can these former tag team champions reignite their reign of terror by unseating Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel as the WWE Tag Team Champions?

Sixteen days before he goes one-on-one with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes, still wearing his protective mask and wearing street clothes, would go one-on-one with “The Dude Buster” Trent Barreta! In the end, it was Cody Rhodes using his protective mask in a pair of headbutts on Trent Barreta en route to picking up the win! What awaits Cody Rhodes when he goes one-on-one with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania?

Four nights after giving a big assist to Vickie Guerrero to allow her to defeat Trish Stratus to earn a job on RAW and, after being attacked by RAW Guest Star Snooki before Vickie set up a 6-Person Tag Match featuring them teaming with Vickie’s boyfriend, Dolph Ziggler, to face the team of John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki at WrestleMania, LayCool would appear on SmackDown as Layla, with Michelle McCool in her corner, would go one-on-one with Kelly Kelly! In the end, it was a distraction by Michelle McCool that would allow Layla to knock Kelly Kelly off of the middle rope en route to picking up the win! What will happen in two weeks’ time at WrestleMania when LayCool teams with Dolph Ziggler to face John Morrison, Trish Stratus, & Snooki in a 6-Person Mixed Tag Match?

After their wars with The Corre over recent weeks that saw steel chairs used against Corre members and even each other, the monstrous team of “The Big Red Monster” Kane and “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show would reunite to try and put a “dent” in The Corre as they would challenge The Corre’s Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel for the WWE Tag Team Titles! In the end, Kane & Big Show had the WWE Tag Team Titles well in hand as Big Show would hit the chokeslam on Heath Slater, but before the referee could reach the three count, Justin Gabriel would pull the referee out of the ring to get him and Heath Slater intentionally disqualified to retain the titles! After the match, Kane would knock down Justin Gabriel, but the rest of The Corre would come out as Ezekiel Jackson would collide with Big Show, taking Show down with a clothesline while Wade Barrett would send Kane spine-first into the ringside barricade! All four members of The Corre would then focus on Big Show as the group would stomp away at Big Show before Wade Barrett would hoist “The World’s Largest Athlete” onto his shoulders and actually deliver Wasteland to Big Show!

The Corre would then catch sight of Kane on the outside and Kane would fight off The Corre, but the four-on-one odds would catch up to Kane as all four members of The Corre would pummel “The Big Red Monster” before sending Kane shoulder-first into the steel ring steps! The Corre would then disassemble the ring steps and Big Show would try and fight off The Corre on the outside, but Wade Barrett would lay Big Show out with a big boot! The Corre would then turn their attention to Kane as, with the bigger half of the steel steps lying on top of Kane, Wade Barrett would drive the top half of the steel steps into the bottom half, crushing Kane beneath the steel not once, but twice! With Kane out of commission, The Corre would focus on Big Show as the group would expose the announce table before Wade Barrett & Ezekiel Jackson would hoist Big Show up and smash the giant shoulder-first onto the announce table, leaving Big Show in a heap of destruction on the arena floor! Together, The Corre has completely destroyed two of the most dominant Superstars in WWE history, but what is the status of Kane and Big Show? What is next on the agenda of The Corre?

Four nights after assisting Michael Cole in a heinous assault on Hall of Famers Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross, Cole’s “trainer” for WrestleMania, Jack Swagger, would be in action on SmackDown as “The All-American American” would go one-on-one with “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters! After Chris Masters would get out of the ankle lock, Jack Swagger would head to the outside of the ring where Swagger would repeatedly smash the ankle of Masters into the steel ring post before locking in the ankle lock again, forcing Masters to tap out! After the match, Michael Cole would enter the ring and would lock in his “an-Cole lock” on Chris Masters while the unstable commentator shouted “come on Lawler”! What will happen in sixteen nights when, with Jack Swagger in his corner, Michael Cole squares off with Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Referee at WrestleMania?

It was revealed during SmackDown that the upcoming season of the hit series, “Dancing With The Stars”, will feature a former World Heavyweight Champion as the first Undisputed Champion in WWE history, Chris Jericho, will take part in the dancing competition! Can Chris Jericho win the “Dancing With The Stars” competition just like he has won so many titles in the WWE?

Sixteen nights before he goes one-on-one with the man who assaulted and unmasked him three weeks ago, Cody Rhodes, at WrestleMania, “The Ultimate Underdog” would be in action on SmackDown as Rey Mysterio would go one-on-one with “The Fortunate Son” Ted DiBiase, with NXT Co-Host Maryse in his corner! In the end, it was Rey Mysterio hitting the 619 on Ted DiBiase and following it up with a splash en route to picking up the win as Maryse walks out on her boyfriend! What does Rey Mysterio have in store for Cody Rhodes in two weeks at WrestleMania?

Then it was time for the main event as, sixteen nights before he challenges Edge for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania, the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio, would face the man he injured back in September in “Captain Charisma” Christian as the two rivals would square off inside the unforgiving steel cage in a Steel Cage Match! At the end of a punishing and hard-fought match, it was both Christian and Alberto Del Rio fighting on the outside of the cage, but it was Christian dropping to the floor first to win the match! After the match, Alberto Del Rio would hit a dropkick on Christian and would throw Christian over the barricade onto the concrete floor! Del Rio would then grab a steel chair and looked set to deal out more damage to Christian, but Del Rio would turn his attention to the entranceway where Edge is seated in his 2011 Bentley honking the horn! Edge would then toy with the #1 Contender by saying that he could “scratch” the car or smash in the roof of the car, but Edge would bring out a steel chair and threaten to smash up Del Rio’s expensive ride, but Del Rio’s protégé, Brodus Clay, would waylay Edge from behind and would deliver a chair shot to the back of the World Heavyweight Champion! Alberto Del Rio would then make his way to the entrance area and, in a heinous and potentially career-endangering move, Del Rio would place the left arm of Edge onto a steel chair as Del Rio would use a second chair to compact the arm of the World Heavyweight Champion in the con-chair-to! What is the status of Edge following this heinous attack by Alberto Del Rio? Will Edge be in any kind of shape to defend the World Heavyweight Title against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania?
